Welcome to Episode 4 of Ancestral Neighbours. If you have missed previous installments, you can catch up here with Episodes 1, 2 and 3.
So, how are you getting on? Have you taken a walk down the road and knocked on the doors of your ancestors’ neighbours? What have you discovered? Are there any businesses in your family’s street – perhaps a Lassiter’s Hotel, or maybe a school like Erinsborough High? Are there any pubs? Which establishments might your forebears have frequented?
This week I am looking at the 1871 Census for the Perry branch of my family tree.

Original held at The National Archives, London; Reference: RG10; Piece: 3159; Folio: 9; Page: 11

I have not expanded contracted names, nor corrected misspellings (for example Geroge instead of George, or Benjaman instead of Benjamin), I have transcribed exactly as is. However, I have expanded Had to H[e]ad as that is clearly the only word that would work in this entry/column.
I hope this blog encourages you to apply the FAN (Friends And Neighbours) Method to your research, maybe start by exploring your ancestors’ streets.
Tune in next week for Episode 5 of Ancestral Neighbours.
