Welcome to Episode 2 of Ancestral Neighbours. If you missed Episode 1, you can catch up here.
Have you explored the neighbours in your ancestors’ streets? What have you discovered? Any connections to your family – maybe through marriage or employment?
Over the next few weeks I will be focusing on census returns that my ancestors appear in. However, it is important to remember that each census was simply a snapshot of a household on one night of the year. There may have been individuals from neighbouring houses that aren’t listed below, but were living in my ancestors’ street for several months/years before or after the census was taken. Other record collections can, and should, be considered when conducting a mini-local study to get a fuller-picture.
This week I am looking at the 1891 Census for the Gowlland branch of my family tree.

Original held at The National Archives, London; Reference: RG12; Piece: 1330; Folio: 91; Page: 49

I hope this blog encourages you to apply the FAN (Friends And Neighbours) Method to your research, maybe start by exploring your ancestors’ streets.
Tune in next week for Episode 3 of Ancestral Neighbours.
